Up Helly Aa, a midwinterfestival in Lerwick, is perhaps the biggest fire festival in the world. It is about welcoming the lengthening days, about having a big party in the dark and stormy winter season, a celebration of the Viking heritage and a look back over the past year. There are two torch lighted processions: one for the adults and one for the juniors.
